If your iPoolGo pool can hold 300mm (30cm) or more of water, Australian regulations generally require a compliant pool safety barrier or fence. Requirements vary between states and territories, so customers should always check with their local council or building authority.

Does My iPoolGo Pool Need a Fence?

In most Australian states and territories, a pool fence is required if a pool:

  • Holds more than 300mm of water

  • Is capable of being used for swimming or recreation

  • Is installed temporarily or permanently

  • Includes many inflatable, portable and above-ground pools

This requirement can apply even if the pool is only used during summer.

General Australian Pool Barrier Requirements

✅ Minimum fence height of approximately 1.2 metres

✅ Self-closing gate

✅ Self-latching gate

✅ Non-climbable zone around the fence

✅ Maximum gaps generally no greater than 100mm

✅ Regular maintenance to ensure compliance

Queensland : 

Pools capable of holding more than 300mm of water generally require a compliant safety barrier and registration. Pool safety certificates may also be required when selling or leasing a property.
 

Victoria : 

Pools and spas capable of holding more than 300mm of water must generally be fenced and registered. Safety barrier inspections are required periodically.

Pool owners must maintain compliant safety barriers and may require certification when selling or leasing property.

South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania, ACT and Northern Territory : 

Requirements vary and customers should check with their local authority before installation.
